SPRINGFIELD (April 13, 2005): The Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) is proud to announce that it has become a major partner in the Springfield Green initiative through a $10,000.00 contribution that was presented to Mayor Timothy J. Davlin today
According to Gail Chevalier Zini, CAAR’s President, as major stakeholders in t he community it makes perfect sense for REALTORS® to become involved in the Springfield Green initiative. “No one understands more than REALTORS® the inherent benefits of well-groomed and cared for neighborhoods. As REALTORS® we have a vested interest in helping our communities establish neighborhoods that are attractive and pleasing to the eye. After all, REALTORS® live and work in the community too so it only stands to reason that we too want to look our best,” said Chevalier Zini.
Chevalier Zini commends Mayor Davlin for his leadership role in advancing the Springfield Green initiative and for allowing CAAR the opportunity to participate.
The Springfield Green Neighborhood Beautification Grant program will put money directly into the hands of Springfield neighborhoods. Organized neighborhood associations who meet certain criteria can apply for a competitive grant to help fund greening projects in public spaces. Eligible costs include, but is not limited to, trees, shrubs, plants, soil enhancement and maintenance of existing greenery.
Each awarded grant is for up to $500. Matching funds are not required by highly encouraged and prioritized. CAAR’s $10,000 will allow up to 20 different grant opportunities. For more details concerning the program or to download a grant application access the Springfield Green website. The deadline for grant applications is May 5th with recipients announced on May 13th.
An April Fool's Day fundraiser, hosted by CAAR's Community Service Committee, was the primary fundraising vehicle for this project. This was made possible by the contributions of many including REALTORS®, our friends in affiliated industries, CAAR staff and other local businesses. Individuals and businesses wanting to participate may still do so by sending a contribution to CAAR.
